The Assistive Technology Prep course (ATPrep) is an online training program that provides individuals with a comprehensive understanding of assistive technology (AT) and how it can be applied to your field of practice.

- The Assistive Technology Prep course (ATPrep) is an online training program that provides individuals with a comprehensive understanding of assistive technology (AT) and how it can be applied to your field of practice.
- Intended Audience

This course is for healthcare professionals interested in working with Assistive Technology or earning the RESNA ATP certification.
- Start Date and Duration

This course begins in January and runs through May. The course consists of 10 units, each covering a different topic in assistive technology. Each unit is 2 weeks long, during which participants can complete that unit's online content at their own pace; each unit concludes with a live, virtual recitation.
Each unit involves a roughly 3-hour time commitment, totaling 30 hours over the course of 20 weeks from January to May.
At the conclusion of the online course, participants meet for the in-person, hands-on "Assistive Technology Deep Dive" in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. This includes roughly 8 hours of education (not including travel time).
Total commitment is about 21 weeks, 38 total education hours (20 hours self-paced online, 10 hours live, online recitation, and 8 hours live, in-person workshop).

This course costs $1,299.00 and includes both the 10-unit course and the Deep Dive workshop.
However, this cost does not include any travel arrangements or estimations in order to complete the Deep Dive workshop in Pittsburgh.
- CEUs Offered

Upon completing the course, and the workshop, the student will receive 3.8 CEUs.
Participants who complete only the online course but do not attend the Deep Dive have the option to receive a certificate for 3.0 CEUs (30 hours) only.
- Program Goals

After completing the ATPrep course and Deep Dive, participants will be able to…
- Perform an initial assistive technology assessment to identify a client's priorities and needs.
- Explain the full breadth of assistive technology options, including but not limited to devices assisting with:
- mobility, communication, transportation, employment & education, and recreation.
- Develop a client-centered follow-up plan to ensure that assistive technology recommendations are working effectively.
- Participant Expectations and Course Components

The course is divided into 10 units, each two weeks in length. Each unit covers a different topic in assistive technology, which will be covered with online webinars, readings, and other content. Participants will also complete competency assignments including case studies, quizzes, and online discussions. In total, each unit contains about three hours of learning content on average. At the end of each unit, the material is reviewed via conference-call recitations where subject matter experts will answer questions and provide feedback on case studies.
Following the online portion of the ATPrep, participants are invited to the live Deep Dive workshop in Pittsburgh, PA. The workshop includes lab activities with various types of assistive technologies, model clients, and live case studies. It is an opportunity for participants to apply what they have learned through the duration of the course in simulated real-world activities.
