Course Overview

The program topics include central causes of dizziness (e.g. anxiety and migraine-related dizziness), BPPV, concussion management, vestibular function testing, alternative therapies, pharmacotherapy, cervical dizziness, back to work and driving decisions and innovative therapies for persons with vestibular disorders. 

This course is pre-approved for 14 (3.5 General and 10.5 Direct Access) continuing education units for physical therapists in Pennsylvania.

Intended Audience

Clinicians (physical therapists, physicians, nurses and physician assistants) who have basic knowledge of vestibular disorders.

Friday, May 10, 2024 - Saturday, May 11, 2024.

Cost

This course costs $450.

Neurologic Physical Therapy Residents, AVPT graduates, and group registrants must complete this form prior to registration.

Registration will close at 23:59 Eastern time (UTC – 4) on April 30, 2024.

Program Goals

The program content will be at an advanced level and is designed to provide an update regarding the treatment of persons with balance/vestibular disorders and the underlying science.

Susan L. Whitney
DPT, PhD, NCS, ATC, FAPTA

Dr. Whitney is a physical therapist who has presented about vestibular rehabilitation to national and international conferences. She is the Program Director of the Centers for Rehab Services at the Eye and Ear Institute and has treated persons with vestibular disorders for over 25 years. She is an active clinical researcher who has published extensively.

 

Joseph Furman
Md, PhD, FACS

Dr. Furman is co-director of the course and has numerous Medline references to his credit. He is co-author of the book entitled "Vestibular Disorders:  A Case Oriented Approach" published by Oxford University Press.  He has recently published the 3rd edition with Dr. Stephen Cass and Dr. Susan Whitney.  Dr. Furman has been an NIH supported clinician-scientist his entire career and is a board certified neurologist.
